I think thats a rathere complex question and my initial response would not have been either one of your choices...I don't think there is ONE answer for this age old question. But I am inclined to think that it is a learned behavior that comes from a void (not necessarily the present mate, could be from a past experience) OR they are just unhappy and don't want to leave.

I would say sex.....sometimes if it's not what your getting at home along with the affection and attention it can make you lonely and begin to desire the physical apperance of the oppisite sex. Thinking what they might be like in bed.

when that white van comes up on you and camers are in your face and someones spouce is yelling loudly is you sex drive up or down? Do you at this time feel the pleasures of that touch and kiss you had moments ago? Are you still wet from desire and is your heart thumping now from the sex or is it this thrill? Hell I think its both, Lets meet every monday 3:30 LOL (Been there, done that)
I believe that it has nothing to do with sex...I think the thrill of the chase and the secrecy that goes along with it make it all the more inviting. Why would you cheat for sex if it was readily available at home? You are looking to fulfill some other missing link in your life, not sex.
